League of Legends Worlds 2016 Championship Venues

This year the League of Legends world championship will in North America for the second time from September 29th until October 29th. The League of Legends worlds is a huge event held at the end of the League of Legends seasons where teams from each of the main divisions battle it out for the prize of the Summoner’s cup and a large amount of money.

While the winner is usually the team from Korea the west has been slowly creeping up on them and this year could be an exciting year for the western teams. In order to make sure everyone in North America gets a chance to view the League of Legends World Championship Riot have announced the venues and they are nicely split between the East and West coasts for viewers to get tickets.

We’ve put all the venues on a map to help you find your closest one.

World 2016 Venues: Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

Location: San Francisco, CA
Date Opened: 1915
Capacity: 7,000

The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is the first stop for the League of Legends 2016 World Championship and will host the entire of the group stages.

It was built in 1915 as a multi-purpose arena and it was named after the promoter Bill Graham. Notable events at this venue include the 1920 Democratic National Convention and the World Cyber Games 2004. The arena has also been home to the San Francisco Warriors basketball team and hosted many concerts.

World 2016 Venues: The Chicago Theatre

Dates: October 13th– October 16th
Location: Chicago, IL
Date Opened: 1921
Capacity: 3,880

The Chicago Theatre is a famous landmark located in the heart of Chicago. It’s appeared frequently in film, television, artwork and photography before becoming the host to the League of Legends world championship quarter finals.

The interior is based on French architecture and is extremely beautiful to the eye. An interesting fact about this theatre is that it is home to one of the oldest Mighty Wurlitzer organs still in existence.

World 2016 Venues: Madison Square Garden

Dates: October 21st – October 22nd
Location: New York, NY
Date Opened: 1968
Capacity: 18,200

Having previously been moved 3 times this famous New York garden currently resides midtown Manhattan. It’s the oldest and most active major sporting facility in the New York metropolitan area and is the oldest arena used in the National Hockey League.

It’s arguably the most famous sports arena in the world and so the fact it will host two full League of Legends games speaks volumes for the growth of eSports.

It hosts approximately 320 sporting events each year including hockey and basketball. It’s also held concerts from big names like Elton John, Elvis Presley and was the final concert venue for the murdered John Lennon. The four League of Legends teams lucky enough to play at this venue will certainly feel fortunate to share the same stage as Madonna.

World 2016 Venues: Staples Center

Venue for: Worlds 2016 Finals
Dates: October 29th
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Date Opened: 1999
Capacity: 18,118

The League of Legends worlds 2016 finals will be held at non-other than the Staples Center. While it’s easily the newest arena on the list it’s also the best.

It’s previously held the League of Legends World Championship in 2013 as well as big name singers such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper. When the stadium isn’t full of singing it’s also hosted WWE (and John Cena), boxing matches, Figure Skating, Summer Games as well as being home to the LA Lakers from the NBA.

This list has shown that Riot have picked some of the most exciting venues in the entire of the USA and we can only hope that the League of Legends 2016 World Championship can live up to the hype.
